Bath – Amanda Ellen King, 107, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 6, 2017 surrounded by her family.
She was born Wiscasset on December 28, 1909, a daughter of Lester and Etta Mae (Rines) Munsey Sr. She moved to Bath at two years of age and graduated from Morse High School in the Class of 1927 where she was the oldest alumni. Following high school she was employed as a bookkeeper at the Harry W. Crossman grocery store. On December 6, 1930 she married Robert W. King Sr. After raising five children, she was employed as a seamstress at the Brunswick Naval Base and later as a cook operating the hot lunch program for the Huse School and Morse High School in Bath. During the summers she cooked at Chewonki specializing in pastries. She was a member of the Corliss Street Baptist Church in Bath for 104 years where she was the last member of the Philathia Class. She was also very involved in running the Sunday school program at the church.
She enjoyed doing crafts, knitting and donated hundreds of mittens to the Church. She enjoyed many new inventions in her life, the one that she thought was the greatest is the microwave.
She is predeceased by her husband Robert W. King Sr., eleven siblings, two daughters, Melvina “Beanie” Moore and Barbara Ann Harris.
She is survived by three sons, Robert W. King Jr. and his wife Mary of Woolwich. Dennis J. King and his wife Mary of Beverly Hills, FL and David A. King and his wife Barbara of Woolwich, one special niece, Pat Pye of Bath, 11 grandchildren; Daniel King, Alan King, Greg Moore, Cindy Cygan, Jeff Harris, David King Jr, Lisa Lee-Thomas, James Lee, Jennifer Hughes, Jason King and Jennifer King, thirteen great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
