He was a lifetime dairy farmer and also worked part time for the Lansing State Journal. He enjoyed hunting, gambling and taking his companion “Duke” for a ride. He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers and 1 sister. Surviving are his wife of 46 years, Karen; children, Alvin (Karen) Smith, Jr. of Westphalia, Colleen (Thomas) Pfister of Ann Arbor, Carol (Randy) Koenigsknecht of Farmington Hills, Arleen (Patrick) Platte of Westphalia and Dean (Candace) Smith of Portland; 12 Grand Daughters; brothers, Stanley (Shirley) Smith and Ronald (Sharon) Smith; sisters, Mary Ann (Clair) Schneider and Alice (Robert) Hafner; sister-in-law, Susan (Pete) Smith; several nieces and nephews.
