Alma Lee Verkamp(nee Morrison) passed away Thursday, March 20, 2014 at her home in St. James at the age of 86.
Mrs. Verkamp was born December 13, 1927 in Cook Station, Mo., to Fred and Flora (Asher) Morrison. In 1947 she married the late Bernard Verkamp. He entered into rest November 20, 1986.
Together they ran Verkamp Ready Mix and the family farm which is still operational and was recently awarded Century Farm status.
Alma Lee was an avid crossword puzzle fan, and her bridge-playing skills were the stuff of legend. She also enjoyed twice-weekly swim class at MS&T for many years. She loved cooking, Cardinal baseball and talking about her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her quick wit, easy laugh and caring nature made her a joy to be around.
Mrs. Verkamp will be missed by her sister, Betty Johnson of Dallas, Texas, brother Bob Morrison and wife Betty of Rolla, four sons: Frank Verkamp and wife Sheila of Lisle, Illinois, Randy Verkamp of St. James, Ed Verkamp and wife Jennifer of Humble, Texas, Dave Verkamp and wife Danielle of St. James, grandchildren Casey Verkamp, Amy Verkamp-McArthy and husband Matt, Ben Verkamp, Emily Verkamp, Jeff Verkamp, Ryan Verkamp and wife Laura and great-grandchrildren Hannah Verkamp, Tyler DelaFuente, Olivia and Elizabeth McArthy and Piper Verkamp.
Alma Lee Verkamp is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bernard Verkamp and one daughter-in-law: Paula Verkamp.
