Age 59, loving wife, mother, daughter, and sister, passed away on Wednesday, June 2, 2010. She was born on November 1, 1950 in Ionia the daughter of Robert and Doris (McCord) Montgomery. Mrs. Corey was a graduate of Ionia High School in 1968, Michigan State University in 1972 with a Degree in Criminal Justice, and Golden Gate University School of Law with a Juris Doctorate. During law school she was listed as an outstanding student, made Law Review, and Who’s Who of American Lawyers. After law school, Mrs. Corey had a private law firm for 10 years in California. Upon returning to Ionia, she continued to be a strong supporter of the Democratic Party and Ionia Public Schools. She held a position on the Ionia County Board of Canvassers and was a Delegate for the Democratic National Convention in 2008. She was an avid reader, gardener, and enjoyed substitute teaching. She volunteered for Zion Food Pantry in Ionia, and was a lifelong advocate for volunteer causes. She was an amazing person inside and out who accepted people for who they were. Surviving are her husband of 20 years, Herbert Corey of Ionia; daughter, Megan Elaine Corey of Ionia; 4 step sons, Herbert Mark (Chris) Corey of Holt, Eric Anton (Wendy) Corey of St. Johns, Chad Mark (Katie) Corey of Lansing, and Shane Luke Corey of Lansing; parents, Robert and Doris Montgomery of Ionia; siblings, Mary Montgomery Colvin of Saranac, Donna (Dick) Nees of Jackson, and David (Debra) Montgomery of Ionia; nieces and nephews, Josh Montgomery, Melissa Sisler, Robert Montgomery II, Nicholas Colvin, Sara Nees, and Matthew Nees; several step grandchildren; great nieces and nephews.
