Alice Elizabeth (Walsh) Stivaletti, 81

PORTLAND – Alice Elizabeth Stivaletti, 81, devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother died peacefully at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough on January 8, 2016 with her family by her side.

Alice was born in Portland on November 7, 1934, the youngest child of fireman Robert J Walsh and Florence Nicholson Walsh. She resided in Portland her whole life, first living in the Woodfords area, and she graduated from Deering High School in 1952.~ She also was a long time parishioner of St. Joseph’s Church.

Alice worked at Blue Cross in Portland until she met the love of her life, Jerry Stivaletti, at church as she accepted a ride home from him one Sunday and their courtship began. They were married on September 10, 1960 and had five children, one who died prematurely. They first lived in Longfellow Woods area and then moved to North Deering in 1967 where they resided the remainder of their lives. Alice cherished the memories of friends, neighbors and the long time families on Brook Road.

Alice would greet anyone who came into her life with a warm smile, dimples on her rosy cheeks, and an Irish twinkle in her beautiful blue eyes. Her main priority in her life was her family as she always put her family first. Every night she cooked a home made meal as there were no TV dinners served in the Stivaletti house. She also was an encyclopedia of knowledge as she always knew the answers to questions ranging from history, literary works and art to math and science. She had the answers to every day life questions too as she was the one person who always knew what to say and was so comforting in times of need.

Alice loved the ocean and going to the beach to collect sea shells whether it was at Pine Point and Long Island Maine, or Naples and Siesta Key Florida. She always said she wanted to be a biologist, and she loved nature and animals, and she cared deeply for the environment.

Alice was known as Nana to her two grandsons, and she cherished every moment spent with them including teaching them valuable life lessons along the way. She enjoyed going out to lunch with her family, especially to Salty Bay, Cole Farms, PHOP, Bruno’s, and Dutch Valley in Sarastoa FL. She was an avid New England sports fan who loved Tom Brady and David Ortiz, along with her favorite shows The Walton’s and Little House on the Prairie as those shows reminded her of simpler times. She had a beautiful voice, like her two sisters, and she enjoyed music ranging from The Big Bands and Tony Bennett to Barbara Streisand and Andrea Bocelli.

Alice will be sorely missed by her family as she was a shining example and inspiration to so many people with her deep and unwavering faith, her steadfast devotion to her family, along with her thoughtfulness, kindness, comforting manner and selfless generosity towards others.

Alice was pre-deceased by her husband of 55 years Jerry Stivaletti, her son John Joseph Stivaletti, her parents, her brother Robert Walsh Jr., her sisters Dorothea Walsh, Francesca Walsh, and Sally Nappi. She is survived by her four children Gina Stivaletti and partner Steve Hayes, Maria Therriault and husband Dennis, Linda Petty and husband Ron, and her loving son Anthony Stivaletti; beloved grandsons Nicholas Therriault and Andrew Therriault; brother-in-law Albert Stivaletti and wife Anita; nieces and nephews David (Peggy) Walsh, Diane (Ron) Knott, Michelle Stivaletti, Michael (Karen) Stivaletti, Frank (Venus) Nappi Jr. and Francesca Nappi; and several cousins.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at MMC AVU (Cathy!
