Alice E. Appel, 93, of Virginia, died Thursday, May 26, 2016 at Edgewood Vista. She was born August 9, 1922 in Moline, Illinois to Dr. Willis T. and Hazel S. Hinman and graduated from Moline Senior High School in 1940. She studied dance from age 3 to 18. Alice met Don Appel in 1938, and they were married November 3, 1940 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She pursued studies at Moline Business College, Moline Community College and Augustana College at Rock Island, IL. Her early work included experience as a nurse’s aide, medical technician, and medical secretary; and she served as Red Cross Gray Lady in Dixon, IL in 1944/1945. Alice and Don moved from Columbus, Ohio to Virginia, MN in July 1954. Alice was employed in the business office of the Iron Range Rehabilitation Center in Virginia from October 1, 1954 to October 1, 1984. Alice has been a member of the Peace United Methodist Church in Virginia since 1954. Her recreational interests included ice skating, swimming, bicycling, cross-country skiing and canoeing.
