Age 89, passed away on Friday, August 15, 2008. He was born on May 23, 1919 in Orleans the son of Joel and Irene (Gleason) Palmer. Alfred enjoyed watching football and the Kentucky Derby. He loved eating especially his wife’s cooking. He loved his family and especially his grandchildren. Alfred was brought into this world by his grandmother, Nora who virtually saved his life at birth. He lost his father when he was 14 years old in the Kerns Hotel fire in Lansing. On January 4, 1941 he married, Helen Anderson in Ionia and she preceded him in death in 1993. He is also preceded in death by a grandson, Scott Reeves. Surviving are his children Joel (Sharon) Palmer,Sr. of Orleans, Alfred (Beth) Palmer of Walker, Nancy (Pete) Reeves of Orleans, Bill (Rhonda) Palmer of Orleans and Sandy (Doug) Hausserman of Orleans; 17 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren with another on the way; 4 great great grandchildren.
