Alfred H. Milliken, Jr.

January 24, 1922

May 4, 2015

Alfred H. Milliken Jr., 93, formerly of Falmouth, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2015. The son of Alfred H. Sr. and Grace (Selma) Milliken was born in Scarborough, Maine on January 24, 1922. Alfred graduated from Deering High School in 1941. After graduation he worked in the South Portland shipyard and played semi-pro hockey.

During WWII he served in the US Air Force and was stationed in Amarillo, Texas. He flew on B-29’s and was a tail gunner. After returning to Maine, Al and his brother Wendell went to work for his father and Uncle Clem at York Electric. Very soon after that they opened their own business. Al’s brothers Carter and Roland later joined him and Wendell and formed Milliken Brothers.

Many years later, Alfred left Milliken Brothers to join his sons Wayne and Bruce at Falmouth Electric, working with his sons until he retired in 2003. Alfred was active in the Limestone Mason and was also a Shriner. He belonged to the Portland Rotary Club and attended meetings with his dear friend John until a few years ago and was also a member of the Woodfords Club. He enjoyed flying his own twin engine Cessna 310, bringing the family back and forth to Florida each year. He enjoyed skiing, golfing, fishing and all activities that included his grandchildren and was an active member of the Portland Country Club and St. Mary Church in Falmouth. In August of 2014 Alfred was granted a “Live Your Dreams” day by the Maine Health Care Association and Fallbrook Woods and his wish was to golf once again. Val Halla Country Club opened their course and along with his daughter and his sons and their spouses, Alfred spent an afternoon doing what he loved.

But most of all Alfred loved his family. He was always the life of the party and all of his children and grandchildren remember him fondly. He is pre-deceased by his wife Marilyn, his five brothers; Sewall, Gerald, Roland, Wendell, Carter, and four sisters; Eunice, Ruth, Louisa and Laura.

He is survived by his sister Selma (Sammy)Wilbur, daughter Anita Brann and her husband Rudy, Wayne Milliken and his wife Elizabeth (Pete), and Bruce Milliken and his wife Denise, as well as his nine grandchildren: Wendy, Stacey, Kimberly, Jason, Shaun, Shannon, Travis, Kelly and Cameron, and thirteen great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He will be sadly missed by all.

Al’s family would like to thank Susan Kezal and the entire staff at Fallbrook Woods for being the “angels” in Alfred’s life over the past few year. He loved his time there and enjoyed all of the activities they offered.
