Alfred Golden, age 79 of Tower died Wednesday, February 15, 2017 in Essentia – St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth. He was born October 3, 1937 in Virginia, the son of Alfred and Irene (Hoffman) Golden and was a graduate of Mt. Iron High School. Al served in the United States Army and was stationed in Texas. After his honorable discharge, Al lived in Bloomington, Cook, and Virginia prior to retiring in Tower. He married Maurita Davis in a ceremony in Aurora on August 5, 1961. Later in life he became a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Tower. Al was employed as a milkman, worked for the Knutson Company in Minneapolis, was the owner/operator of the Golden Boy Grocery Stores, One Hour Photo, as well as other small businesses. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, snowmobiling, gardening, country-western music, cooking and baking, and was an accomplished butcher. Al was a great conversationalist, who had a passion for discussing politics.
Al is survived by a son: Al “Sonny” Golden of Joliet, IL; siblings: Georgeanne Golden of Indianapolis, IN and David Golden of Winona; best friend and caregiver: Patricia “Patty” Karich of Tower; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Maurita in 1997; and sister: June Prout.
