Albert Richard Laukkonen, age 85 of Virginia and formerly of Sparta died Wednesday, March 14, 2012 in the Virginia Convalescent Center. He was born September 19, 1926 in Sparta, the son of Richard and Helen (Puurula) Laukkonen; and was a graduate of Gilbert High School. Albert married Violet Salo in June of 1956 in Virginia and they were longtime residents of Sparta. He was employed by Erie Mining Company and owned his own construction company in Sparta for many years. Albert served in the Army during the Korean War.
Albert is survived by his wife of 55 years: Violet; brother-in-law: Reverend Melvin Johnson of Woodbury, MN; nieces: Kristin Hebrank & Melanie Johnson; grand-niece: Anna Hebrank and other extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, twin baby sister: Eleanor and sister: Norma L. Johnson.
