Alan E. Carp

A native of New York City, Al earned a B.S. in Food Technology from Delaware Valley College, and received his M.S. and Ph.D in Food Science from Purdue University. He moved to the Minneapolis area in 1969 to work as a senior food scientist at General Mills. He continued his career as a manager  in the food industry for nearly 29 years at International Multifoods, later Multifoods.  During this time Al was engaged in international product development, followed by regulatory affairs. He genuinely enjoyed his interactions with people at all levels within the company and in the industry at large.  Al sincerely enjoyed his work on the national board of the American Association of Cereal Chemists and as president of the Multifoods Retirees board. He had a long tradition of support for a broad spectrum of Twin Cities cultural life.  His almost weekly enjoyment of classical concerts or opera, theater productions or museums was enhanced by his support for young musicians, whether as a father, or through his service on the boards of the Greater Twin Cities Youth Symphonies and the MacPhail Suzuki Association.

Al helped start and actively supported the Metropolitan Open School.  He cared deeply about and worked for social justice and world peace.  He served on church councils and committees, and was a volunteer for many groups, such as the  Minnesota International Center and Second Harvest Heartland.

Al loved to travel with his wife and friends to see family and explore new places around the world.

His smile, his sense of humor, and kindness will be especially missed.
