Mrs. Adelaide Mesh Drew (Addie), 94, of Monrovia, Maryland died November 18, 2014, at Pleasant View Nursing Home, in Mount Airy. She was born November 21, 1919, in Glen Lyon, Pennsylvania, a daughter of the late Bolish and Antonia Mesh, and a sister of the late Edmund Mesh. She and her late husband Alfred were married Dec. 24, 1946.
Addie graduated from Bloomsburg University with a degree in teaching.
Addie loved to travel, try new recipes, and her church. Before moving to Monrovia she taught Sunday School for many years. After moving to Monrovia. She and Al were members of the American Legion (Auxiliary) Post 171 in Damascus, The Damascus Travel Club, Damascus Garden Club, and Providence United Methodist Church in Kemptown. Addie was known for her love of family, generosity, and her skillful teaching.
Alfred W. Drew (Al), 90, died February 12, 2011,
He was born February 24, 1919 in Conowingo, Maryland, the oldest son of the late Charles and Margaret Drew; and brother of Charles (Bud) Drew, John Drew, and the late Florence (Win) Borgnis, and the late Dorothy Henretty.
Al worked for the Glenn L. Martin aircraft company overseas during World War II, then joined the U.S. Marine Corp. He worked for the State of Maryland as a Forest Ranger, and then Natural Resources Police. He and Addie lived in Conowingo for about 50 years before moving to Monrovia to be closer to family.
He loved flying out to breakfast with friends, restoring Fordson tractors, reading biographies, and “tinkering” in his shop. He was known for his love of family, patience, knowledge of plants, trees, and farming, and his ability to fix anything.
They are survived by their daughter Penny, and her husband Scott Shuford, of Monrovia and their granddaughters Rebecca and Jessica.
