After a lifetime of building, creating, and helping, Nyle Fassett, 80, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, April 9. Born and raised on a farm in Nashville, Michigan, two events changed the course of his life. First, he joined the U.S. Army, toured Europe, and discovered a love of engineering. Then he returned home and met Barbara, the love of his life for the rest of his life.
Nyle had an intrinsic drive to make his world a little better. Whether it was hand crafting furniture in his wood shop, giving out Bibles as a member of the Gideons, earning patents for forklift improvements, or serving faithfully at his church.
He always believed the best gift he could give was his time: coloring and puzzles and Wii with his grand-kids, evening walks with his wife, playing catch or teaching woodworking with his sons. Always with a sense of humor (even the groan-inducing dad jokes).
While multiple sclerosis slowly stole his mobility over the last 30 years, it could never take away his gentle, kind spirit. He found comfort in Philippians 4:6-7, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.”
Nyle is survived by his wife, Barbara; two sons and their families, Wayne (Kris) and Brent (Katy); four grandchildren, Luke, Aliza, Ben, and Nathan; two brothers, Clair and Lee; and two sisters, Lois and Linda.
