Norman E. Rice, entered into rest Monday, July 26, 2010 at St. Lukes Hospital Quakertown. He was 88. He was the husband of Mildred S. (Derstine) Rice. They were married 68 years. Born September 10, 1921 in Pipersville, PA he was the son of the late Mahlon and Maggie (Erb) Rice. He was predeceased by his brother, Walter. Norman was a farmer for many years and also worked at the Clover Leaf Mill in Milford Square and as a truck driver for Moyer Chicks. He spent many years volunteering at Camp Men-O-Lan in Quakertown and at the Care & Share Shops in Souderton, PA., and went on five SWAP mission trips to Kentucky. He looked forward each year to working in his vegetable garden. He was a member of West Swamp Mennonite Church, where he previously served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, and trustee of the church. In addition to his wife, Norman is survived by three daughters, Charlene Smoll and her husband, Clyde of Quakertown, Patricia Bevan and her husband James of Quakertown and Jennifer Franklin and her husband Robert of Virginia Beach, VA, five sons: Leslie Rice and his wife, Linda of Quakertown, Gerald Rice and his wife Shawn of Thornville, OH, Alan Rice and his wife Kathy of Quakertown, PA, Jeffrey Rice and his wife Penny of Quakertown, PA, Joel Rice and his wife Cathy of Winnsboro, SC, 19 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Margaret Hinkle and her husband Richard, Kathryn Rush, three brothers, Albert Rice and his wife Miriam, Harold Rice and his wife Suzanne, Robert Rice and his wife Gladys.
