Norman P. Kaiser, 87, of Freeport passed away in his home, with his family surrounding him, on Thursday, January 21, 2016.

Born January 28, 1928 in Freeport he was the son of Leo and Ermina (Phillips) Kaiser. He married Janet McLain on Sept 16, 1956 in Freeport. Norman was a farmer for most of his life and a welder/machinist for Mac’s Machine Shop for over 35 years.

He was a member of Park Hills Evangelical Free Church, for over 45 years where he had been a Sunday school teacher / superintendent as well as a general board member and youth leader at church. His memberships also included Cedarville Historical Society, lifetime member Masonic Excelsior Lodge #97, the Scottish Rite, York Rite, Freeport Commandery #7, High Twelve, and Gideons International.

He was a charter member of the Stephenson County Antique Engine Club and was a lifetime member of the NRA. He spent 40 years as a volunteer fireman for the Cedarville Fire Dept and the Freeport Rural Fire Department. Norman is survived by his wife, Janet of Freeport, his daughter Rebecca (David) Hanson of Freeport, his grandchildren Caleb and Mikayla Hanson both of Freeport; his step-grandchildren, John (Valleri) Hanson of Dakota, and Heather (Mitch) Robieson of Racine, Wisconsin’ 4 step great grandchildren, Alli and Logan Hanson, and Cooper and Connor Robieson; niece, Sally (Mike) Arndt of Freeport; nephew, Paul (Rachelle) McLain of Seattle, Washington; and his brother-in-law, Myron (Nancy) McLain of Owensboro, Kentucky.

He was preceded in death by his parents and 1 son, Randall.
