Norman E. “Norm” Schaer, 77, of Spring Bay, IL, passed away at 2:10 am on Monday, February 7, 2022 at OSF Speciality Kindred Hospital in Peoria, IL.
He was born on July 17, 1944, in Peoria, IL, to Norman P. and Vivian (Loveless) Schaer. He married Joyce K. Shanklin on August 30, 1964, in Varna, IL.
Surviving are his wife, Joyce of Spring Bay; three children, Angela (Dave) Tilley of Spring Bay, Aaron Schaer of St. Cloud, MN, and Abigal (Natalie) McClain of Kansas City, MO; two grandchildren, Bradley (Kayla) Lange and Alex Lange; five great-grandchildren, Kiera, Vivi, Ozzy, Zakary, and Ronnie; and one sister, Nancy Draggist of Spring Bay. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Norm was a U.S. Air Force Veteran, serving in the Phillipines as an inventory specialist. He worked for 18 years at Hiram Walkers before becoming a Woodford County Sheriff’s Deputy. He then served as a corrections officer for the State of Illinois. In addition, Norm was a part-time officer for Spring Bay where he eventually became the Chief of Police of Spring Bay and Bayview Gardens police departments. He served Spring Bay for 40 years as an officer and in multiple other roles helping the community.
In his free time Norm loved to fish and spend time with friends and family. He was a great storyteller and had an infectious laugh.
