Norman Maurice Labbe

November 13, 1928 ~ July 7, 2022

On the morning of July 7, 2022 Norman M. Labbe of Forest Hill, MD died at the age of 93.

Norm, “Buddy, Buster” originally from Abbeville, LA was born November 13, 1928 to Waldo J. Labbe and Eldies (nee Landry) Labbe.  He shared his childhood with brother Waldo, “Wally “and sisters, (nee Labbe) Eldies Cenac, Shirley Dostague, and Carol Matherne.  He was a kind, gentle man with many stories of being a soda jerk working in his father’s pharmacy store, reading the very first superman comic, driving before getting a license was required, and having to learn to tap dance with his younger sister.   A Korean War veteran and trained signal man, he retired from IBM in 1987 as a systems analyst whose project coordination included some work with NASA.

In 1996, he married Joanne (Ullrich) (deceased). Norm enjoyed tennis and walking with fellow Volksmarchers, the Freestate Happy Walkers, and Tater Tours traveling all over the country.  After stopping his travels, Norm became a volunteer tour guide at the National Aquarium in Baltimore and remained an avid walker, logging 2 miles every day.  He enjoyed the outdoors, playing with his dogs, Ozzy and Milo and never missed a meal. He always said, “there is nothing like a good burger” and “peanut butter goes with everything”.

He is survived by his loving stepdaughters Judy Crowley, husband Ray Crowley III and Karen Benton, husband Gerald Benton, jr; Seven grandchildren, Ray, Justin and wife Laura, Taylor, Madison, Olivia, Brooke; Great grandson Maverick, Sister Carol Matherne, and several loving nieces and nephews.
