Norman LeRoy Svee, 83, of Graham, NC, died December 21, 2016, following a lengthy illness.

He served for 21 years in the U.S. Naval Air as an Aviation Electrician. During this service to his country, he was recipient of several awards, including the Navy Commendation Medal.

After retirement from the military, he began a second successful career by earning an Associate’s Degree in Biomedical Equipment Maintenance and Repair. He both worked and taught in that field for several years in Denver, Colorado before relocating in 1983 to Burlington, NC. Here he established and taught a Biomedical Equipment Program at Technical College of Alamance (now Alamance Community College), receiving an Outstanding Instructor of the Year Award on August 13, 1985.

Mr. Svee also devoted much time to researching and producing a detailed Genealogy of both sides of his family, dating back to 18th century Scandinavia, and covering their eventual migration to the U.S.

Through his deep desire to learn and excel, he became proficient in computer technology and related areas, and was always ready to lend a helping hand to those who came to him with problems of a technical nature.

Mr. Svee is survived by his wife, Sally (Rake) Svee, daughters Gail Ghabour and Denise Cox, sons John and Eric Svee, five granddaughters, three grandsons, two great grandsons and one great grand-daughter.

He also leaves behind two beloved siblings – his brother, Jerry Svee, of Minneapolis, MN, and sister Janice (Svee) Stewart of Shoreview, MN, their spouses and many others of the extended family and friends who love and respect him for the fine man he was.
