Norm was born during the depression years in Summerfield, Kansas. He attended schools in Summerfield, Kansas and Wilder, Idaho.
Upon graduating he went to work as a Telegrapher for the Union Pacific Railroad. During that time he met and married Laura Haines and had his first son, Michael A. Godbout. He later divorced Laura and in 1964 married his 2nd wife Helen Bussing. He later adopted her son, Richard N. Godbout. During this time he retired from the railroad and went to work for Sunsweet Growers, all the while working his way through the Carnegie Business School and eventually landed a job as Terminal Manager for Western Gillette Truck Lines in San Jose, Ca. Norm then divorced Helen and met the love of his life, Carol Anderson. Norm and Carol married in 1974 and he gained two step-sons, Robert J. & David M. Anderson. About this time Norm Landed a position with Ore-Ida foods in Burley, Idaho, as Warehouse Manager. He then worked his way up the ladder with Ore-Ida and eventually became General Manager of Logistics for H.J. Heinz International. Norm eventually moved to the Heinz headquarters in Pennsylvania. His work with Heinz allowed him & Carol to travel to and from Japan until his retirement in the mid 1980’s when he and Carol moved back to Idaho. They enjoyed many years with children & grandchildren at their home on the Payette River in Garden Valley before moving back to Meridian.
Norm was preceded in death by his wife, Carol, sons, Mike & Robert, brother, Kenneth, sister-in-law, Irene & brother-in-law, Jim Thomas
