Dickson, Norman George (Norm) – March 2, 1947 to September 16, 2022
Passed away peacefully at home in Lakeland, FL surrounded by his family on September 16, 2022 at the age of 75. Norm was born in London, Ontario and grew up in Scarborough, Ontario. In his late teens he decided to head south in search of warmer weather. Norm settled in Tallahassee, Florida where he received his Associates Degree from Tallahassee Community College and went on to Florida A & M. He would later receive his Bachelor of Business Administration at Georgia State University in Atlanta Georgia. In 1976, Norm proudly became a loyal US citizen. As America was celebrating its 200th year of Independence, it seemed as though there was a huge party to celebrate Norm’s US citizenship!
While living in Tallahassee he worked for Shawnee Airlines at Tallahassee Airport which later became Southern Airways. It was at an airline party where he would meet the love of his life, Jeannie. After they married on October 11, 1972 in Hialeah, Florida he transferred with the airlines to Atlanta, Georgia. From here they moved to South Carolina where they owned a cultured marble company. They made their way back to Florida, first to Deland where he joined the Army National Guard and completed bootcamp at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas. He was called to active duty twice, once to handle the Liberty City Riots and second the Mariel boatlift Crisis in Miami. They would eventually reside in Clearwater, Florida where Norm opened his trade show marketing business, Design Production Associates (DPA), designing and building exhibits and displays for major corporations. He and Jeannie worked alongside each other for 30 years. They were together 24/7 and sometimes even that wasn’t enough. Norm’s job was his passion and hobby, he loved what he did. He would say owning his own business was waking up each morning unemployed, it was his job to go out and get work. He also said that as a salesman, his work started when the client said no. In 2016 they retired and made their way to Lakeland, Florida to be with their children and grandchildren.
As much as Norm enjoyed the challenge of his work, it was his family that brought him joy and they came first in every aspect of his life. Norm was an adoring husband, devoted father, and proud Papa. There was not a thing his family needed that he did not seek for a way to provide. His family was his entire life, and Papa was his favorite name. With quick wit and an abundance of understanding, Norm energetically and unselfishly gave of himself for his loved ones. He frequently told Jeannie and the children of his love for them. He simply adored Jeannie in every way. Their Golden Anniversary is a wee bit over three weeks away.
Norm was preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Isabell (McDougall) Dickson and his older sister, Cathy Dickson. He will forever be loved and remembered by his adoring wife of 50 years Jeannie, his children Jeff Dickson, Jennifer Dickson and Sheri (Chris) Carey. His four grandchildren Caitlyn, Carolyn, Jeffery Carey and Liam Dickson. His sister Leona (Gil) Graham and three brothers, Richard (Teresa), Bruce (Bernadette) and Bradley (Dorothy) Dickson. His cousins Robert (Penny) Dickson, Paula Findlay and Marilyn (Russ) Dewar. His sister-in-law Donna Lanier and brothers-in-law Kenny (Amy) and Robert (Teresa) Whitmarsh and many loved nieces and nephews.
