Norman (aka Nathan Leon) Friedman, 83,
passed away peacefully in La Mesa, California
on November 15th, 2018. He was born on
December 23rd, 1934 in Brooklyn, New York to
parents Max and Sadie Friedman. Growing up in
Brooklyn with his sister Blanche, he graduated
Brooklyn College with a degree in Merchandising.
Norman was the greatest salesman anyone had
ever seen, and he could sell anything, from a
neighbor’s handmade aprons in his teens to gold
and silver jewelry in adulthood. In 1977, he
married the love of his life, Bernice, and they
shared a lifelong love of animals that led to
running two separate animal rescue
organizations. Using his incredible sales skills, he
raised over a million dollars for these charities.
“Do it for the animals,” he’d tell donors in his
inimitable east-coast accent. A great ballroom
dancer in his youth, Norman brought joy to
people with a lightning-fast sense of humor that
came up with the funniest lines you’ve ever
heard. Norman is survived by his beloved wife
Bernice, his sister Blanche, his children Layne
and Alissa, his stepchildren Ira, Matt, and Craig,
his beloved sister-in-law Ro Cenker, his beloved cat Sparky, as well as nephews and
grandchildren. To help continue his lifelong goal
