NORM SCHMIDT  “UNCLE SAM”

Norman Dale Schmidt, age 83, passed away suddenly on May 30, 2023.  He was born December 9,1939 in Lincoln, Illinois.  He was a proud graduate of The University of Illinois with a major in Biology.  He began his teaching career in Illinois.  Being the outgoing, energetic man he was, he decided to pursue a career in sales which he did until he retired.  In his work years, he traveled extensively across the United States. He made friends everywhere he traveled.

 He was a firm believer in volunteering to help others.  His volunteer commitments included 10 years at Akron Children’s Hospital in the Emergency Room comforting patients and their families. He also volunteered at Open M, an inner-city facility that assists the needy in many ways. During those years he also assisted at the Summit County Food Bank.

Norm loved Basketball and was a referee for young people for many years.  He was a Kiwanis member and was also active in the Civil War Roundtable club. Norm was passionate about all things relating to Abraham Lincoln and was a published author on the subject.  He also enjoyed being our local Uncle Sam walking in multiple local parades dressed as Uncle Sam with his ever present smile for the crowds.

Norm was preceded in death by his parents, Edward J. Schmidt and Beulah I. Schmidt. 

He is survived by his beloved wife, Judi, of 40 years; Children, Bryan Schmidt (Judy), Kevin Schmidt (Jennifer), Amy Wilson (Bob), Kim Romanski; Stepdaughters, Jennifer Fogliano (Pat Norris) and Laura Moffa (Joe); Grandchildren, Scarlett, Megan, and Brooke Schmidt, James and John Schmidt, Aidan, Erin and Patrick Romanski, Parker (Breann), Preston and Michael Moffa; Brother, Roger Schmidt (Rocille) and Nephew, Aaron Schmidt.
