Norman A. Ashworth, Sr., 94, of 30 Sayles Hill Road, died Wednesday, July 10, 2019. He was the beloved husband of the late Leda (Noiseux) Ashworth, with whom he celebrated 70 years of marriage in 2018. Born in Woonsocket, he was the son of the late Albert and Lea (Rondeau) Ashworth.
Norman was a loving father and grandfather, as well as a selfless and giving individual who always put others’ needs before his own. He had a kind and endearing spirit and was adored by all who knew him.
Norman served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II as an aviation machinist, where he was decorated with the Victory Medal, American Theatre Medal, and Asiatic Pacific Theatre Medal. He worked as a machinist for Brown & Sharpe for most of his career.
Norman loved playing sports as a youth, especially baseball and football. He was an avid collector of coins and paper money. He was also a fan of the Red Sox, Celtics, and Patriots. He had a passion for history and reading.
Norman leaves a daughter, Audrey Pepin of North Smithfield, and two sons, Timothy Ashworth of Worcester and Norman Ashworth, Jr. and his wife Lisa of Fort Myers, Florida. He also leaves three grandchildren, Daniel Pepin and his wife Diane of Blackstone, Christine Rice of New Hampshire, and Timothy Pepin and his wife Spenser of Mendon, as well as three great-grandchildren, Nadine, Ethan, and Madeleine Pepin. He was the brother of the late Ernest and Lionel Ashworth.
