Norma Squire Owen, 84, of Layton, UT passed away surrounded by family Wednesday August 24, 2022 at around 3am. Norma was born June 16, 1938 in the small town of Gunnison, UT. Mother, Bertice Larson and Father, Ivan Squire. Brothers, Nolan, Roland, Everd, Garlyn and sisters, LoDel, Helen and Jane.
She had several occupations in her life including nanny, Church Offices clerk, Zions Bank, in home daycare and for the bulk of her career she worked 17 YEARS for the IRS. She joins our father Ira Lorenzen Owen who she missed dearly. They were married December 21, 1962 in the Manti Temple where they were sealed for time and all eternity. They had five children together Ira Steven Owen, Kelly Todd Owen, Kenneth (Ken) Patrick Owen, Jenean Clarissa (Waite), and Melanie Cynthia (Gavura).
Norma loved to garden and was good at it. She loved camping, sewing, music, and most of all family. Family was so important to her. Her favorite color was blue, the tiger was her favorite animal. She loved birds and always had a bird feeder. She loved movies like Cinderella, The Sound of Music and musicals with Gene Kelly, Gene Wilder, Ginger Rogers, and others of that era. She loved treats like cherry chocolates, snickers, and cherry chocolate creamies. She was a very private person and yet somehow managed to touch so many people’s lives.
She is preceded in death by father, Ivan Squire; mother, Bertice Larson; step-mother, Amy; sister, LoDel (Squire) Beal; and brothers-in-law, Alvin Beal, Larry Bradley, and Fred Bohman.
Survived by children, Ira Owen, Kelly (spouse) Owen, Ken (Erin) Owen, Jenean (Trevor) Waite, Melanie (Adam) Gavura; and grandchildren, Xavier Waite, Gavin Waite, Kaija Waite, Taron Waite, Austin, Keaton, Kaden Owen, Trinity Owen, Shaw Owen, Fox Gavura and Ivan Gavura. Siblings, Helen Bradley, Nolan (Carolyn) Squire, Everd (Lorna) Squire, Jane Bohman, Roland (Jeanie) Squire, Garlyn (Debra) Squire.
