Norma (Nirma) L. Johnson Rettinger, 89, of Crawfordsville passed away peacefully Saturday, Feb. 7, 2015, at Franciscan St. Elizabeth East, Lafayette.

She retired from RR Donnelley & Sons and was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. She had also been a volunteer at St. Clare Medical Center. She was very dearly loved by her family and friends. Children adored her. She loved animals.

Norma was a very kind and a very strong woman, with an ornery sense of humor. She was born Nov. 15, 1925, in Montgomery County, to John and Mabel (Wray) Lewellen.

Norma married Harold “Chuck” Johnson in 1952, and he passed in 1970. She later married Virgil Rettinger in 1984, and he also preceded her in death in 1991.

Survivors include: children, Tim (Lisa) Johnson of Mundelein, Ill., Bob Johnson of Crawfordsville, Jill (Bob) Miessler of Lafayette and Sandy (George) Tannery of Ypsilanti, Mich.; step-daughters, Ginny (Mike) Froedge of Crawfordsville and Nancy (Bill) Steinkamp of Columbus; brothers, Kenneth Lewellen of Arizona, Byron Lewellen of Crawfordsville and Keith Lewellen of Kentucky; sister Darlene Kohtz of Westfield; sister-in-law Lou Johnson of Crawfordsville; grandchildren, Christopher, Jessica and Stephanie Johnson, Kate (Ryan) Cusack, Katie Tannery and George Tannery V, David, Seth and Kevin Froedge, Tracey and Christy Steinkamp, R.C. (Angela) Miessler IV; greatgranddaughter Elizabeth Zelda Miessler; and her truly beloved nieces, nephews and other extended family.

She also was preceded in death by daughter-in-law Julie Johnson, wife of Bob; and brothers, Bob, Harold, Eston and Harvey Lewellen; and sister Betty Walker.
