The Camicia family is sad to announce the passing of family matriarch
Norma Camicia. Norma passed away peacefully on November 30, 2021.
She was 101 years old.
Norma was preceded in death by her husband Joseph Harry Camicia who
died in 1978. She is survived by her sons Joe, a former Alameda City
Councilmember and Philip a longtime stockbroker, their wives Colleen
and Tracy and grandchildren Cara, Conor, Gina and Joey.
Born in Oakland and a graduate of Oakland’s University High School, she
lived in Alameda for more than 70 years. After graduating from high
school she worked in Oakland for two fashion retailers: The Gray Shop
and I. Magnin. Proud of her work in retail, Norma often mentioned that
her personnel file at I. Magnin included the notation “hire back
anytime.”
A lunch time volunteer at both Frank Otis School and Lincoln School, she
was awarded the PTA’s Lifetime Achievement Award for her volunteer
work. Norma was known for her kindness and support of those in need.
Norma was long active in the eastbay’s Italian-American community
and was an active member of a number of east bay Italian clubs including
the Ligure Club, Fratellanza Club and Alameda’s Italian American
League.
We wish to thank Waters Edge Lodge and Elders Inn for their many years
of care for Norma.
you love to lunch. Norma loved a nice lunch!
