Norma June Reed Disz

Norma Disz began her journey into the waiting arms of her beloved husband Tom and her dog Sam.

Norma was born February 7, 1946, in Ogden, Utah, to Russell E. and Ardelle Flinders Reed.

She was raised in Ogden and attended Ogden city schools, graduating from Ben Lomond High School in 1964. She attended college at Westminster College in Salt Lake City and graduated from Weber State University with a degree in elementary education.

Norma was an elementary school teacher and later became an administrative assistant with the U.S. government.

Norma and Tom married on February 15, 1974. They began their life together in Ogden for a short time and then began traveling the world for Tom’s career in the Air Force. Eventually they landed back at Hill Air Force base.

They settled in Layton, and later in West Point.

Norma and Tom acquired their beloved dog Sam and together they trained to become members of Intermountain Therapy Animals. Norma and Sam were quite a team, going to many assisted living centers and other places to soothe ailing patients. Their dog Max was also a therapy dog. And Norma acquired Tucker following Tom’s death.

Tom and Sam passed away in 2013.

Norma is survived by two sisters, Patricia (Gene) Campbell, South Jordan, and Marilyn Bennett, Ogden; a niece, Gina Campbell, Salt Lake City; nephews Steve (Connie) Campbell, Salt Lake City, and Brady (Bobbi) Bennett, Ogden; four great-nephews, Reed (Arin) Robins, Grant Robins, Ian Campbell and Brekin Bennett; and great-niece Braydin Bennett. She is also survived by Tom’s daughters, Michele Buss and Valarie Withrow and four grandchildren; She is also survived by special friend and loving caregiver Lorie Trout and a bunch of fantastic neighbors.

The family would especially like to thank Lorie Trout and the nurses and aides at Inspiration Hospice for their loving support.
