Norma Jean Hippley, age 85, of Salem, died at 12:05 a.m. Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at the Blossom Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Salem. She was born December 13, 1930 in Salem, Ohio, the daughter of the late John W. and Ruth H. (Clark) Hanna.
She was a 1948 graduate of Salem High School and member of the band. She worked in sales for AT&T for 20 years and also did bookkeeping for the family owned company, Hippley Excavating. She retired in 1990.
Norma was a member of the Ohio Bell Pioneers of America, Catholic Daughters of America, St. George Catholic Church in Lisbon, and also attended St. Philip Neri in Dungannon. She enjoyed watching Notre Dame, Ohio State, Cleveland Browns, and following the Cleveland Indians.
Her husband, Lawrence R. Hippley, whom she married July 16, 1949 preceded her in death November 11, 2001. Three sisters, Vera Hanna, Virginia Stiffler, and Louise Ott also preceded her in death.
Survivors include six sons, Larry (Jan) Hippley of Salem, Phil Hippley of Salem, Dan Hippley of Salem, Steven Hippley of Salem, Ronald Hippley of Salem and John Hippley of Columbiana; a sister, Denise Betz of Lisbon; eight grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
