Norma Jane Baker, 81, of Elkhart, passed away Saturday, Jan. 28, at Elkhart General Hospital. Norma was born June 18, 1935, in Young America, to the late Harland and Lottie (Burrous) Bowyer. Norma married Paul E. Baker on Feb. 27, 1954, in Rochester.
She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Paul; son Jeff (Theresa) Baker of Elkhart; daughters Lisa (Rick) McAllister and Debbie (Ron) Desimone, both of Elkhart; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are one brother and two sisters. Norma was preceded in death by her parents; daughter Brenda Pontius; grandson Jacob Wright; and four brothers, Sherman, Bud, Bryon and David Bowyer.
Norma was a loving homemaker and wife. She was an avid seamstress and loved sewing, crocheting and making quilts. Norma also enjoyed painting and at one time painted her entire house. Norma actively attended all of her kids’ and grandchildren’s events. Norma volunteered much of her time to the EMHS (Elkhart Memorial High School) booster club when her children were in school.
She loved listening to Johnny Cash and was a huge Purdue fan. There will be a service celebrating Norma’s life at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, with visitation two hours prior. James Flechman will officiate.
