Noreen Moya Henry Gilmour was born August 10, 1937 in Morningside Park, Edinburgh, Scotland. Ms. Gilmour was a widow. She was married to George Gilmour who died on August 19, 2013. She had no children and no living siblings. A very reserved and devout woman, Mrs. Gilmour dedicated herself to her husband, until his death. Mrs. Gilmour was a dedicated educator who began teaching in Scotland & England. In 1964 she immigrated to New York, NY and taught in Catholic Schools before moving to Norfolk, VA in 1967 and teaching there in Catholic Schools for 20 years. While in the Tidewater area she earned a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Old Dominion University and then a Masters Degree in Administration and Supervision from Virginia Commonwealth University. In 1981 Ms Gilmour was named Teacher of the Year by the National Catholic Educational Association. A job change for her husband George brought Mrs. Gilmour to Northern Virginia in 1987, where she was selected Principal of St. Louis Catholic School. She served there until her retirement in 2006. For the next five years she participated as an active member of the Arlington Diocese’s DFE (Design for Excellence) Accreditation team. Mrs. Gilmour lived at Spring Hills, an assisted living facility in the Groveton area of Fairfax County. Mrs. Gilmour was preceded in death by her husband George Gilmour, her brother Canon David Henry (Archdiocese of St Andrews and Edinburgh in Scotland) and her parents Tom and Katie Flynn Henry. She is survived by her cousin Mary Henry Kirwan, niece Patricia Susan Mason and her sister-in-law Norah “Noreen” Catherine Mason.
