Norbert George Tylicki died unexpectedly Wednesday morning, December 29, 2021, in Kalamazoo, MI. He was born April 23, 1941, in Cleveland, OH a son of the late Norbert N. and Helen (Langa) Tylicki.

Norbert grew up in Cleveland, OH on Harvard Ave and East 131st street in the Polish neighborhood. As a young adult, his first job was as a Paperboy, and later worked in a local Post Office and started his love of golf as a caddy. He attended St. Mary’s of Czestochowa from grades K-8th and graduated from Benedictine High School in 1959. While in high school Norbert was a member of the marching band. Norbert then attended Ohio University and then graduated with an Associates in Engineering from John Carroll University.

He was employed by Eaton Corporation – Axle Division for 35 years. Norbert worked in the Engineering Department as a Senior Project Engineer. He worked there from July 2, 1962 until July 3, 1997.

In 1963 he was united in marriage to his wife Mary. They were happily married for 58 years. They started their family in 1964 and the family resided in Brook Park, Ohio. Brook Park was their home until he was transferred to Kalamazoo Michigan in August of 1983.

Norbert was active in the Boy Scouts of America serving as Scout Master for Troop 671 in Parma Heights, Ohio. He was also an active member of the Union of Poles in America, member of The Knight of Columbus council #6980 Portage, MI. He was an active member of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church. Norbert volunteered at St. Catherine’s as an usher and volunteered his time on the coffee and donut team along with Mary for over 10 years. Norbert was also an active member of Eagle Lake Association. He was a firm believer in donating blood and had achieved donating over 16 gallons of blood during his lifetime.

Norbert’s hobbies included: bowling, playing cards, softball and he LOVED GOLF! He played in numerous golf leagues in both Cleveland and Kalamazoo. In his early retirement years, he worked at Stonehedge Golf Course as a starter and a ranger for over 20 years. Norbert was a true fan of the Cleveland Browns, and he was also a member of the Kalamazoo Chapter of the Cleveland Browns Backers and was also a loyal Cleveland Indians fan. Norbert also loved to watch the University of Michigan football on Saturdays.

Both Norbert and Mary were Snowbirds that spent the winter months in Marco Island, FL for the past 20 years.

Norbert was famous for his quick wit, his infectious smile, sense of humor (hence, he loved the Minions), patience and having an awesome memory of just about anything and everything.

Norbert was a loving husband and a true role model for his children, and grandchildren. He truly enjoyed other people’s company, and was a great friend to all.

On August 31, 1963, Norbert married the former Mary McGreevey, who survives. Also surviving are his children, Nadine (Randy) Downs, Kevin Tylicki, and Phillip Tylicki; grandchildren, Alena Tylicki, Josh McCoy, Zach McCoy, Jared Downs, and Cody Downs; brother, Blaise (Arlene) Tylicki; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
