Norbert Adolph Heller of Hebron, NE, the son of Carl Adolph and Elda Louise(Vorderstrasse)Heller, was born July 24, 1932, on a farmstead in Thayer County. He departed this life Wednesday, December 15, 2010, at Bryan LGH East in Lincoln, NE, at the age of 78 years.

Norb was baptized August 7, 1932, by Pastor R.J. Voss and confirmed April 14, 1946, by Pastor A.L. Heine at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Gilead, NE.

He grew up attending Dist. #3(Toad Valley)grade school and graduated from Reynolds High School. After graduation, Norb went to work for a heavy equipment construction company and also worked for area farmers. On October 22, 1952, Norb entered the U.S. Army, doing his basic training at Camp Roberts, California. He then served in the Korean War in the Punch Bowl and Heartbreak Ridge. Being honorably discharged August of 1954, he returned home, working construction.

On September 11, 1955, Norbert married Charlotte Clayton at the First Baptist Church in Fairbury, NE, by Pastor John W. Nelson. This union was blessed with the birth of five daughters.

Norb farmed almost all of his life until his retirement in 2007. He also drove the Gilead school bus for 10 years. He served on the Dist. #89 Gilead School Board, Hebron Coop Board, Hebron Veterans Board, and was an officer of the Farmers Union in Hebron. He was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Gilead where he served as Sunday school teacher, church secretary, trustee, and was the youngest deacon ever recorded. He was also a member of the Hubbell American Legion serving as chaplain, post commander, and county commander, he was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign War.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and twin infant brothers.

He is survived by his wife Charlotte of Hebron, NE, five daughters: Ava Quinn and husband Donald of Gretna, NE; Joyce Raatz and husband Jon of Fairbury, NE; Chrystal Nichelson and husband Scott of Fairbury, NE; Holly Troxel and husband Todd of Fairbury, NE; and Sarah Glen and husband John of Fremont, NE; two brothers Henry of Hebron, NE and Marvin and wife Sandra of Cedar Falls, IA; two sisters Adella Schmidt of Pueblo West, CO, and Ethel Saathoff and husband Don of Hudson, CO; 8 Grandchildren: Cortney Quinn of Omaha, NE, Christopher Quinn of Ashland, NE, Clayton Raatz of Fairbury, NE, Tanner Sell of Lincoln, NE, Marshall Nichelson, Cheza and McKenna Troxel all of Fairbury, NE, Derek Glen of Fremont, NE; two great-grandchildren: Monéy Holloway and Malia Davis both of Omaha, NE; nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
