Nora Lee Earnestine Hester, 90, of Galesburg, died at 2:05 p.m. Tuesday, January 29, 2019 at Seminary Manor, Galesburg.Earnestine was born July 6, 1928 in Amarillo, TX the daughter of Ernest Bud and Zelma Gwendolyn (Underwood) Poling. She married Voyne Alfred Hester on June 15, 1957 in Amarillo, TX. He preceded her in death on November 25, 2017.
Earnestine is survived by one son, Col. Robert (Jeanne) Hester of Wichita, KS; three daughters, Linda (Robert) Mayers of Ashland, OR, Priscilla Yvonne (Michael) Abell of Amarillo, TX, and Gwendolyn (Richard) Humes of Galesburg; along with nine grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.
Along with her husband and parents, Earnestine was preceded in death by two sisters, Gwen and Naomi; one brother, Ernest Bud Poling, Jr., and two great grandsons, Bradley Yeamans and Camden Knox Humes. Earnestine attended business college and worked at American National Bank and it was there that a friend introduced her to Voyne. The railroad brought them to Illinois where Earnestine became a railroader’s wife and a stay at home mother. She loved working in her vegetable and flower gardens and spend many years canning a variety of foods. Earnestine also loved to cook.
Earnestine also enjoyed going to her church, Bethany Baptist Church in Galesburg, reading her bible, and listening to old hymns. Earnestine was also a past worthy matron and member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Earnestine and Voyne enjoyed traveling together.
