Noble John Salerno, 81, of Orange, passed away Nov. 1, 2010 in Milford after a brief battle with cancer. Born in New Haven Aug. 13, 1929, he was the son of the late Matteo and Frances Lettieri Salerno. He was a graduate of the University of New Haven with a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering, an A.S. degree in Industrial Engineering and an A.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering. Noble worked at The OLIN Corp. for 27 years as a Graduate Mechanical Engineer. Until his retirement, he worked at Yale University for 24 years as a project engineering manager. He was a member of the Society of Mechanical Engineers for more than 25 years. Among his many accomplishments, Noble worked on many buildings and projects at Yale including the independent telephone system of 8,000 phones and two computerized telephone switch gear stations. He worked on a team to build the Power Plant Utility Interconnection System to connect campus power plants to each other and to Yale buildings.
