Passed away on Sunday, January 3, 2016 at the age of 90. Nina was born in Battle Creek on June 29, 1925, the daughter of the late Joseph J. Mercer and Myrtle E. (Letson) Mercer. She was a member of Calvary Bible Church East and a former member of Hope Reformed Church. Among her hobbies, she enjoyed flower gardening and fishing. She graduated from Battle Creek High School in 1943.
She married William Harriman on February 26, 1944 and he was killed in action on June 15, 1944 on Saipan during World War II. She was married to John A. Pierce on December 24, 1945; he preceded her in death on October 20, 1976. Nina and John had three children, John A. Pierce Jr. and his wife, Carol, Steven S. Pierce and his wife, Bonita and Michele Kieser and her husband, Bob. Michelle passed away in June 2015 from cancer. She married John Verschoof on June 26, 1982; he preceded her in death on April 1, 2006.
She is also survived by his children, Judy and Jack Nederhoed, Paul and Sue Verschoof and David Verschoof; grandchildren, Joseph, Trevis, Caleb, Kelly, Belinda, Heather, Jessica and Samantha; several great-grandchildren; one sister, Alice Hoyt and her husband, Russel and one brother, Raymond Mercer and his wife, Elaine; and many nieces and nephews.
