Before retiring in 1980, he worked for Lawrence Labriola Landscaping and Westchester Garden Center in Armonk and was a member of the International Laborers Union of No. America Local 60 since 1955. Throughout his life, he was a avid gardener tending to his flowers, fruit trees, grape vines and vegetable garden and was there to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed his help.
