NICHOLAS J. PAULOS, 90, a longtime resident of Lordsburg passed away Friday February 12, 2016 at Mt. View Regional Medical Center in Las Cruces.

Nick was born May 7, 1925 in Hazard, Kentucky to James and Elena (Kopsis) Paulos. After returning home from his service to our country in the U.S. Army he took advantage of the G.I. Bill and enrolled in the University of Arizona to pursue a medical degree. He loved dancing so naturally he sought a job as an instructor at the Arthur Murray Dance Studios in Tucson, Arizona. He later joined the drama club and was part of the cast in a play and that’s where he where he caught the acting bug so he dropped out of school and moved to Long Beach, California in hopes of being discovered.

During that time he continued on as a teacher with the Arthur Murray Dance Studios in Long Beach. In the mid 1960’s he and a friend went to Mardi Gras into New Orleans and unfortunately on their way home they were in a car accident and he suffered many broken bones which sadly ended his dancing career. At that time he came to Lordsburg to be near his brother Ted Paulos. He worked as a bartender in the Gold Room in the Hidalgo Hotel and then later at the Road Forks Tavern. When he retired from bartending he went to work as an activities aid at Sunshine Haven Nursing Home.

Nick is survived by his nieces and nephews, Debbie Davis, Randy Wallace, Paula Wallace, Lisa Grimes, Cheri Howard, and James “Jim” Paulos. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Ted and Pete Paulos and by his sister, Penny Paulos.
