Giuliani, D.D.SNicholas J. “Nick” age 82, on March 10, 2021 of Havertown.A St. Thomas More, St. Joseph’s College and Temple Dental school of the late Nicholas and Olga (Ciancaglini) GiulianiBrother of the late Robert GiulianiSurvived by his beloved wife of 57 yrs. Nancy R. (nee Russo), his son Nicholas A. M.D. (Beth, D.O.), his daughters Maria (Claudio) Recchilungo and Laura (Steven Binnig) Giuliani, his 9 grandchildren; Claudio Recchilungo Jr., Sophia Recchilungo, Lorenzo Recchilungo, Julianna Recchilungo, Gabriella Recchilungo, Hannah Giuliani, Isabella Giuliani, Owen Binnig, Henry Binnig, and his brother William (Loretta) and sister-in-law, grew up in the Overbrook section of Philadelphia and, as the oldest of all his cousins by a span of five years, he was often tasked with babysitting responsibilities leading him to be lovingly adored as the “Big Brother.” He spent his young life playing street baseball, managing a paper route and studying hard at St. Callistus Catholic Elementary School. His commitment and diligence resulted in full scholarships to St. Thomas More High School (he was the class valedictorian) and St. Joseph’s College. He continued to Temple Dental School where his sense of national duty inspired him to enlist in the United States Air Force R.O.T.C. program. He graduated in 1963 as a full Captain.During his time in dental school, he met the love of his life, Nancy Russo, and they married in 1963. The newlyweds spent their first two years stationed at a military base in Topeka, Kansas. In 1964, he and Nancy welcomed their first child, Nicholas. Nick often shared fond memories of his time spent in the Heartland, reminiscing on the life-long, genuine friendships he developed and recounting humorous stories around military balls and baseball team blunders. However, Nick’s heart always remained with his family’s roots in Philadelphia. They moved back to Pennsylvania settling in Havertown. In 1966, he and Nancy welcomed their daughter, Maria and in 1974, another daughter, established his dental practice close by in Drexel Hill. For five decades he serviced his patients, developing deep relationships with them and their families. And depending upon your experience with Dr. G. he was either affectionately known as the “humming” dentist or “The Hammer.”Nick was an active St. Tommy More and St. Joe’s alumnus, as well as a member of the local Sons of Italy chapter. A child of an Italian immigrant, he retained a deep respect and love for the culture of his father’s homeland, especially the food, wine and music.Although Nick held an extensive knowledge of classical music and opera, he was also passionate about sports especially the Philadelphia Phillies and would often organize Spring Training trips to Clearwater, FL with his son, twin brothers and cousins. Nick enjoyed spending summers at the New Jersey shore and in his later years could be found sitting out on the deck of his shore house in Sea Isle City sipping a gin & tonic.Above all else, Nick was devoted to his family. As the eldest of his brothers and cousins, he took his role as de-facto family historian seriously – sharing stories about the older generations of aunts and uncles. As husband and father, he was kind, generous and devilishly funny. His affection for his nine grandchildren was profound and obvious to all who knew him. He attended almost all of their sporting and academic events and proudly spoke of their accomplishments. He loved to be with his family and found no greater joy than simply being in their presence. His gentle spirit, kind heart and big smile will be greatly missed to all who knew and loved him.
