Nestora S. Hernandez, 96, of Elkhart, passed away Sunday evening, June 22, in her home, surrounded by her loving family. Nestora was born Nov. 19, 1917, in Asherton, Texas, to Pedro Salas and Sabas (Melchor.) On March 13, 1936, she married Jose S. Hernandez. Jose passed away April 7, 1989, in South Bend.

Surviving are her children, Jose (Frances) Hernandez of Topeka, Mary Morris of Milford, Fred Hernandez of Elkhart, David Hernandez of Milford, Connie (Crispin) Hermosillo of Milford, Teresa Diaz of Goshen, Alice (Rogelio) Navarro of Indianapolis; 41 grandchildren; 57 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and her sisters, Estefana Barrera and Dorotea Castilla, both of San Antonio, Texas, and Santos Cruz of Carrizo Springs, Texas.

Nestora was preceded in death by her husband; sons Manuel and Frank Hernandez; brothers Julian and Francisco Villarrea; and a half-sister, Teresita Villarreal. Nestora was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints in Warsaw. Her loving family meant everything to her; and she treasured the times spent with them.
