Nervia Duterval-Nicolas was born on April 12, 1962, in Marchand-Dessalines, Haiti to Louis Duterval and Marie Jean Phillipe. She leaves behind both parents, her two brothers, her husband, and two children. In Haiti, she was a teacher and nurse because she had a strong passion for helping people.
She loved meeting new people, making new friends, and learning; however, there was nothing that she loved more than being a mother. When she became pregnant with her first daughter she decided to leave Haiti and come to America to give her children a chance at a better life.
When Nervia came to America, there was no job that she wouldn’t take to provide for her family. She didn’t mind working countless hours without vacation if that meant that her family didn’t have to want for anything. Her favorite thing to say was “As long as my children are happy that is the only vacation I need”. She was an amazing person, daughter, friend, and outstanding mother. Her favorite thing to do besides care for her family was to watch crime shows with her kids; she really loved Law and Order SVU.
She taught her kids about selflessness and sacrifice through her actions; these lessons will be her legacy. A legacy her family is proud to keep alive in her honor. She never gave up, complained, or even asked for thanks.
On May 1, 2021, Nervia was called home to be with the Lord and her late son Dave. Sharing the beautiful memories of her magnificent life are:
Her Husband: Smith Nicolas
Her Daughter: Vanessa Marthe Nicolas
Her Son: Smith Jr. Nicolas
