He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, David, Samuel, Ruben, Refugio, & Israel Aguilar; sisters, Lydia Rios, Raquel Castaneda, Clara Aguilar, & Virginia Christopher.
Lee is survived by one sister, Rebecca Hinojosa of Corpus Christi, Texas. He is also survived by many nieces & nephews. He raised one niece & two nephews who he considered his children, Mary McBroom of Missouri City, Texas; Benito Canales of Los Indios, Texas, & Rudy Gomez of Round Rock, Texas.
Lee attended Los Indios School from 1st through 8th grade, and graduated Valedictorian of the 8th grade class of Los Indios School in 1956. He graduated from American High School and attended Texas Southmost College in Brownsville, Texas where he majored in Business.
He had a strong work ethic derived from working very hard on the family farm. His first job in retail was at the local grocery store in Los Indios owned by O.M. Hill and Hill. Other jobs included working at Valley Mart, Penney’s, The Men’s Warehouse, and McCrory’s at Amigoland Mall.
From 1967-1987, he worked for Payless Shoe Source as manager and manager trainee. During his Payless career, Lee also became a traveling store manager tasked with opening new stores across the RGV, the Coastal Bend area, Houston, & Del Rio. The Payless career culminated after 10 years as manager of the Payless Shoe Source at Sunrise Mall in Brownsville, Texas.
During his midlife, Lee attended Barber school and began his very successful second career as a barber. He owned & operated Lee’s Barber Shop and did his last cut on October 18, 2017 when his health was compromised. Lee relished working with the public and never met a stranger. He was a great friend, mentor, role model, and beloved uncle. He was a great listener and always was willing to lend a helping hand. He thoroughly enjoyed his 30 years at the Barber shop where he met many clients from all walks of life.
Lee was a lifetime member of Betania Assembly of God Church which is now known as Abundant Life Church. He served as Sunday School teacher for the children and the youth for many years and also served as treasurer.
Uncle Lee you will be greatly missed! As per 2 Timothy 4:7, You fought the good fight, you have finished the race, and you have kept the faith. Finally the crown of righteousness is reserved for you. The Lord, the righteous Judge, will award it to you & also to all that long for his appearing.
Special thanks to his beloved nieces, Mary McBroom & Ysabel Aguilar Rangel who walked with him through his final journey.
