Nelson Goodloe Jr. was born March 24, 1939 at Barton Community of Colbert County, Alabama. He was born the seventh child of seven siblings, to the late Mr. Nelson Goodloe Sr. and the late Mrs. Mary L. Watkins Goodloe. He went to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 12, 2016.
He accepted Christ at an early age and united with Zion #1 Missionary Baptist Church in Barton. During his youth he was very active in the Sunday School, Baptist Training Union, the Mission Group, the Crusaders and the youth choir. He served with Rev. Tommy Elliott for over 35 years.
After graduation, Nelson attended school in Ohio, and received his certification in meat cutting. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1973 and was stationed in Denver, Colorado. After being honorably discharged, he relocated to North Alabama and was employed with the Kroger Company. He mastered his skill of meat cutting and was requested by numerous customers. He retired with 35 plus years of service.
He was united in Holy Matrimony to Dorothy Chapman and to this union one son, Kelvin Goodloe was born.
Nelson united with Westside Missionary Baptist Church after moving to Decatur. He was involved in several ministries of the church, such as, Chairman of the Deacon Board, Sunday School and Bible Study. He was very knowledgeable of the Bible and was a great supporter of the church both spiritually and financially.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Corene G. Vaughn, Frances G. Johnson and Hattie G. Parker; two brothers, Nathaniel Goodloe and Curtis Goodloe.
He leaves the following family:
A loving wife of over 43 years, Dorothy Chapman Goodloe, of Decatur;Son: Kelvin Goodloe of Decatur; Daughter: Stephanie Goodloe of Denver, CO; a sister, Mrs. Louise Hyler of Tuscumbia, AL; sister-in-law, Lavern Goodloe of Florence, AL; Grandson: Jeremiah Goodloe of Denver, CO; Nephews: Mr. David Jerome Johnson of Springfield, MA; and Mr. Johnson Williams of Tuscumbia, AL; Nieces: Ms. Regina McCanelly of Roulette, TX, Ms. Cassandra Williams of Montgomery, AL, Ms. Nanette T. Scruggs of Huntsville, AL, Mrs. Deborah A. Gurley (Leonard Jr.) of Huntsville, AL, Ms. Rena Roy of Florence, AL and Mrs. Linda Sistrunk of Tuscumbia, AL; Great Nephew: Mr. John C. Sistrunk of Madison, AL; Great Nieces: Ms. Karmen T. Scruggs of Huntsville, AL, Ms. Nakia R. Gurley of Madison, AL and Ebonie Louise Sistrunk of Tuscumbia, AL.
