Nelda Benavides, 60, went home to rest with her personal Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Saturday, July 3, 2021.
Nelda was born on May 29, 1961, in San Benito, Texas to Ismael and Teresa G. Benavides.
Nelda made serving God her priority and always prayed that God would surround her family with people who would guide them and ultimately point them to Him. She was an active and devoted member of Faith Assembly of God in Combes, Texas where she served as a Sunday School Superintendent for many years. In addition to this, she served in the capacity of a Sunday School Teacher, Impact Ministries Sponsor, Church Secretary, and was a member of the Praise and Worship Team. She enjoyed working with crafts and there was truly nothing that she could not create using her creative imagination. She was a very caring, generous, and hospitable individual. Unbeknownst to many of her acquaintances, Nelda had studied and obtained her certified minister credentials and went on to become a Licensed Minister.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ismael Benavides and Teresa G. Benavides.
She is survived by her children Melissa Melendez, Robert Melendez, and Natalie Melendez and by her siblings, Noe (Della) Benavides, Neida Benavides, Nidia Benavides and Norma Benavides. She is also survived by nine nieces and nephews and 10 great-nieces and nephews; all of whom adoringly called her “Mama Nellie”.
She will be greatly missed by all. We will miss her smile and we shall cherish the great memories that she left behind for many years to come.
