Nedra Ann Vanderwerff Taufer passed away peacefully on December 31, 2020 in the presence of her two boys, Jake and James. Born March 24, 1956, in Ogden, Utah, Nedra was the youngest daughter of John Henry and Maxine Crezee Vanderwerff. She graduated from Ogden High School and attended Weber College.
She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served a mission in the Pennsylvania Pittsburgh Mission. Nedra also served faithfully in other capacities including local Primary and Relief Society Presidencies.
She worked as a cosmetologist for over 10 years before landing a position with the Boy Scouts of America. There she met her husband, Keith Taufer, with whom she had her two boys. They were later divorced, and Nedra worked hard as a single mother to care for her boys while also caring for her widowed mother. When her mother passed, Nedra sought work as a reading tutor at E. G. King Elementary School, a rewarding career that lasted nearly two decades. Towards the end of her career, Nedra fought the first of three bouts with breast cancer. The third of these ended her career in education and soon after took her life.
Nedra is survived by her two sons, Jacob William Taufer (Elisabeth Garvin) and James Daniel (Sierra) Taufer, her two sisters, Connie Morgan and Jan Dobbins, and her nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, John “Bud” Vanderwerff.
