Nancy Margaret Staley Laubach of Scottsdale, AZ, passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her family, on April 11th, 2021. The daughter of Thomas Weldon Staley and Elsie Alice (Smith) Staley was born on May 22nd, 1927 in Kansas City, Missouri. Nancy grew up in Kansas City attending the Barstow School, graduating in 1944. She graduated from Smith College in Northhampton, MA in 1948. She married Dr. Grant Hatfield in 1950. Together, they had two children, Ann Boston Hatfield Lane of Paradise Valley, Arizona and Thomas Grant Hatfield of Mission Hills, Kansas. She was active in the Kansas City community where she developed lifelong friendships through volunteer work and participating in many clubs and fundraising organizations. These included the Junior League of Kansas City, Daughters of the American Revolution, the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art and the American Royal (where as a young competitor, she competed in equestrian events, winning many blue ribbons, annually participating in the American Royal parade riding her favorite horse and participated in the inaugural fundraising event for the American Royal, the BOTAR Ball.)
Nancy was a very accomplished athlete and horsewoman. She loved playing tennis with her favorite group of tennis gals. She was a former member of the Kansas City Country Club and the Saddle and Sirloin Club. After moving to Scottsdale in 1984, she was also a member of the Paradise Valley Country Club.
She always cherished her close friends and especially her family.
Nancy leaves her children, Ann Lane (Gary), Tom Hatfield (Lynn), granddaughters Staley Lane, Calin Lane, Whitney Hoefer (Derek) and Kristin Switzer (Nick), and great-grandchildren Hannah and Emma Switzer, and Grace and Grant Hoefer and her first cousin, Judy (Smith) Benson (Ed).
