Nancy Kay Gibson, 61, of Veedersburg, passed away Saturday at home.
Mrs. Gibson was born Feb. 11, 1948 in Orlando, Fla. She is the daughter of William “Jake” and G. Maxine Jones Blacker.
She graduated from Crawfordsville High School in 1966. She received a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education from Indiana State University and Continued Education at Purdue University.
She was married to Ronald D. Gibson. He survives. She was a retired school teacher from Pleasant Hill Elementary, North Montgomery School Corp for 36 years, teaching mostly second and third grades.
She was the first North Montgomery School Corp. Teacher of the year; previously recognized as BPW woman of the year; honored in “Whose Who Among American Teachers” as distinguished Educator in 2004. She received numerous awards for her teaching and community involvements.
In her retirement she enjoyed baking, crafts, flowers and time with her family. She continued substitute teaching in North Montgomery, Crawfordsville and Fountain County schools. She also worked at Faucett and Flame Coffee and Craft Shop in Lebanon. Most important to Mrs. Gibson were her family, community and all the students that she considered her own.
She was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha Alumni, Indiana State University; Eastern Star; Linden Summer Athletic Assoc; 4-H Incorporated; Girls & Boy Scouts; PTO; Montgomery County 4-H Horse & Pony Club; Montgomery County Extension Homemakers-MNO Club since 1978; President of Alpha Delta Kappa Intl Honorary Organization for Women Educators; former Pink Lady at St. Clare Medical Center; Psi Iota Zi; Strawberry Festival Committee member; Indiana retired teachers Assoc; Clown Ministry; Bell Choir at Linden United Methodist; Wesley Thrift Shop; Montgomery County Retired Teachers Assoc; and Indiana WESTEP.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Jake (Kelli) Gibson of Indianapolis; daughter, Jill (Chad) Aker of Portland; five grandchildren, Jessica, Stacy and Ryan Gibson, Addi and Erin Aker.
