Nancy Akin, 98, of Spirit Lake passed away Thursday, December 2, 2021, at Lakes Regional Hospital in Spirit Lake. Nancy Irene Akin was born June 12, 1923, to Nels and Winnie (Seybold) Johnson in Claire, Iowa. On December 5, 1939, Nancy married Robert Akin in Newell, Iowa. Nancy worked as a certified machinist at Sun Home, a licensed nurse’s aide, bookkeeper for Akin’s Corner for 28 years, and worked for Upper Des Moines Opportunity. After retirement Nancy volunteered at Upper Des Moines Opportunity. In her spare time Nancy enjoyed cooking, gardening, and traveling. She loved to travel the west coast especially visiting Oregon and L.A. Nancy is preceded in death by her parents; husband Robert; son Alvin; granddaughter Sandra Kay Motto; grandson Robert Karl Akin; great grandson Matthew Barr, siblings Evelyn, Ruby, Winifred, Betty, Marge, Wallie, Leona and Ethyl. Left to cherish her memory are her daughters Roberta Motto (Jeff Schumway) of Mankato, MN and Linda (Jerry) Henderson of Fort Dodge; sons William Akin of Spencer, John (Kathee) of Sibley, Stan Akin of Des Moines, and Steven Akin of Storm Lake. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren, siblings Carl Sullivan and Louis Rusk.
