Nancy Elizabeth Garrett, age 97, formerly of Morehead, died peacefully in her residence in Mount Sterling on November 28, 2020.
Nancy was born March 20, 1923, in Graham, Virginia, to Estelle (Bruce) Campbell and Paul Campbell. Nancy was one of 7 children. She grew up in Charleston, West Virginia, after her family moved there during the depression. After graduating from high school, she worked as a nurse’s aide and telephone operator.
In October 1947, she married Arnold Garrett, starting a lifelong romance of more than 60 years. Arnold and Nancy had two children, Janet (Lewis) while living in Charleston, West Virginia, and Bruce while Arnold was stationed at Fort Knox, Kentucky.
Nancy developed a shared passion for traveling with Arnold, thanks to his career with American Airlines. Arnold and Nancy’s favorite place to travel was Maui, Hawaii, the beautiful island they called home several months of the year following their retirement. Some of the couple’s favorite things to do in Maui were to hike and spend time in Hana with friends. They also had a home in Morehead, KY where they spent the summer months with family and enjoyed time picnicking and hiking at Cave Run Lake.
