Nancy resided at Eastland Park Senior Apartments in Algona, Iowa for 30 years before moving to the West Bend Care Center in November of 2017. Nancy passed away at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit of North Iowa in Mason City.
She was born in Chicago, IL to Albert Gustave and Sara Ruth (Crain) Zimmerman. She married John Christian Elbert of Algona in 1962. They settled on a farm near the town of New Prague, Minnesota where she raised five children. She was a nurse by training; worked at various nursing homes throughout her life.
Nancy was very gentle, humble, and never complained. Her love in life was her family and her faith. She was a wonderful baker, cook, and seamstress. She has always been admired for her talents in quilting, knitting, sewing, and her beautiful handwriting. As a reminder of her love and presence, her grandchildren now have a collection of tiny to adult-sized slippers that she made for them through the years. She knitted socks for the overseas military, made stunning baby blankets, doll clothes for disadvantaged children, and also for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Nancy is survived by her children: David (Jacqueline) Elbert of Overland Park, Kansas, Paul (Julie) Elbert of Algona, Sara (Steve) Bennett of Macomb, Ill, Andrew (Lee) Elbert of Whitmore, and Ruth/Sister Mary Angela of Sauk Rapids, MN. Her grandchildren: David, Thomas, Amelia, Paul Jr, Amara, Angela, Nathan, and Jeremy. She is also survived by her six great-grandchildren, her “adopted” grandchildren, brother and nieces, nephews, and cousins. We will always carry your memory in our hearts. Nancy is preceded in death by her father, mother, beloved grandmother Mary Stow Crain, her Aunts: Alice (Crain) Shirk and Helen Crain as well as uncles, aunts, and cousins.
