On January 13, 2021, at age 92, Naomi Maxine (Hummer) McIlwain stepped into the arms of Jesus as her work on earth was done.

Maxine was born January 27, 1928, in Jay County, Indiana on a farm in Knox Township near Pennville to the parents of Eulia Naomi (Winget) Hummer and Edgar A. Hummer. She was a sister to two brothers, Wendell and Winfred Hummer, both preceding her in death, as well as one sister preceding her in death, A. Delete Townsend, and two surviving sisters; G. Yetive Williams, and Dorthy A. Gall. She was married to Claude Eugene McIlwain on November 9, 1947, and they were married for 43 years until his death on May 16, 1991. They were blessed with three children which they raised in Anderson, IN; David E. McIlwain (Cynthia) of Winter Haven, FL, Anna D. Johnson (B. Wayne) of Hastings, MN, and Marilyn S. Stump (Jeff), of Winter Haven, FL; eight grandchildren; Michael E. McIlwain, Jeffrey K. McIlwain, Rodney D. McIlwain, Ryan C. Johnson, Laura A. Johnson, Kyle J. Johnson, Jason L. Stump, and Amber (Stump) Brown; 16 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

Maxine’s professional journey took her from a part-time bookkeeper to a health care facility administrator to LPN work and then to a receptionist position at a Florida vocational school. Her first love, however, was her full-time work serving the Lord through her church, teaching children through Child Evangelism Fellowship, and serving with the Mid-India Christian Missions. Maxine never liked change but if she had a purpose then she had a plan. This final change has been in the planning for a very long time and she was ready with eagerness and anticipation. John 14:1-29. To God be the glory!
